ボクシングの６階級王者、マニー・パッキャオ（４２＝フィリピン）が、ＷＢＯ世界ウェルター級王者のテレンス・クロフォード（３３＝米国）との統一戦を６月５日にＵＡＥのアブダビで行う交渉をしている。３０日（日本時間３１日）の米スポーツ専門局「ＥＳＰＮ」が伝えた。
２０１９年７月にキース・サーマン（３２＝米国）に判定勝ちしてＷＢＡ世界ウェルター級王座の２度目の防衛をしたパッキャオはそれ以来試合をしておらず、現在は「休養王者」となっている。
約２年ぶりとなる試合の相手として「ＥＳＰＮ」が挙げたのは、独自に制定している「パウンド・フォー・パウンド」（体重差がないと仮定した場合のランキング）で１位に君臨するクロフォード。昨年１１月に元ＩＢＦ世界ウェルター級王者のケル・ブルック（３４＝英国）豪快なＫＯで破り、ＷＢＯ同級王座４度目の防衛をした後にはパッキャオとの対戦を熱望していた。
「ＥＳＰＮ」は「クロフォード戦の交渉は続いていて、最終決定はまだ」としている。
パッキャオの次戦については他にも様々な相手の名前が挙がっているが、４０００万ドル（約４４億円）のファイトマネーを希望しているといわれるクロフォード戦の実現がなるかが注目される。
